Suva's Hibiscus Festival 2007

Suva's biggest annual festival - Hibiscus Festival - promises to be moor fun and exiting this year as women, young girls and for the first time ever, men, will partake in five different contests. Albert Park, the festival venue, will draw hundreds of people from across the country including tourist from August 17th to the 25th 2007.

Events

Asia Night Entertainers from the Asian groups prominent in Suva including Chinese performances by students of Yat Sen Secondary School and dancers by Malaysian, Indonesian,Taiwanese, and Korean groups.

Pacific Night Performances by the USP Oceania Dance Theatre and many island groups reflecting the beauty of the traditional and cultural background of each Pacific Island nation.

Youth Night The evening will be dedicated to young entertainers who expected to rock Albert Park as they show off their talent.

Bollywood Night A 'star-studded', fun-filled Indian musical and dance extravaganza.

Bogi ni Taukei A celebration of the 'vanua' and the indigenous Fijian culture.

Suva History

Suva was proclamed Fiji's first City in October 1952 and became the Capital City in 1877 when it way moved from Vevuka. This decision was made by the colonial authourities, following the occupation of the Fiji Islands by the United Kingdom in 1874. Suva has many historical sites and landmarks and there are a number of day tours and trips.
